Background
As a food lover who is interested in finding different cuisines, sometimes I have difficult times to make the decision for where I want to go especially when I have so many choices. Even though there are a lot of food guides such as Yelp, Foursquare, Google Map for me to find a place to eat, browsing the endless lists and various reviews often take more time to make the decision. I want to design an application to help people privately explore what restaurants their friends eat from their recommendation map.
Process
01. Research
Generative Research
Posting food on social media has never been much more appealing than ever. The millennial people believe that posting food online is more than just a nice picture because it represents the attitude they have for their lifestyle. Social media has a massive influence on food trends when the food is instinctively a social tool among people. Social media has promoted and influenced consumers' purchasing behavior on food globally. 10 percent of consumers have been affected by social media in North American countries, Spain, the Netherlands, and Australia. Surprisingly, in some Asian countries, China and India, about 20 percent of the consumers' buying behavior have been influenced by social media.
One of the benefits of sharing food on social media is to enlarge our perspectives when people talk about food from different cultures. Social media does not only provide a platform to introduce the cuisines that people might have not seen before, but it also encourages people to try a variety of cuisines and enrich people with more understanding of the diversity of food.
When people make a decision for themselves, people often lose their decisiveness and clarity. Because during the process of decision making, people pay a lot of attention to the details of the granular level. While people are analyzing possible options, they always tend to lower the risk as much as possible. In contrast, while people make a decision for others, they pay attention to the general impression, turning from a reserved mindset to an adventurous one, so this is an essential reason why people sometimes need recommendations straightforwardly.

User Test
Two rounds of an onsite usability test were conducted with a total of ten different participants. The first round was conducted in a paper prototype, and the second round was conducted in a high fidelity mockup that was designed in Adobe XD.
Before the test: I carefully explained the intention of designing this application, with no explanation on how to use it, before starting the test.
During the test: I observed the user and took notes without interruption or giving help and explanation.
After the test: For the debriefing, the participants were given a post-questionnaire and interview to talk about the details about their experience with the application.

Add a restaurant
To add a restaurant to your list, you can take a picture of the food you ordered. Your friends on Loceat will know what restaurants and the food you would recommend.
Find a place for pizza
The search system will help you to find a popular place for pizza. After you open the restaurant’s information, you will see how friends have visited this place and what they ordered. You can add the place to your saved list for further decision.
Friend’s list
The blue represents the restaurants where your friends have explored. The red represents the restaurants that they saved. You can explore your friends’ lists privately in which you can add more interesting restaurants.
Check my map and list
The “filter“
By pressing the eye, the purple represents the saved restaurants that are on both lists of your friend and you. Using this feature helps users to make a decision of choosing a restaurant with friends more efficiently. This feature is designed to solve the problem of receiving answers to “You pick!”, “Whatever”. “Up to you” from friends.
The mutual list
Grouping friends is supported, so the users are able to browse what restaurants this group of people has visited and saved. This feature is designed to help a small crew of people to make decisions about restaurant choosing.
